Post office hours Martin Luther King Day 2017: Is there mail delivery Monday January 16?

Wondering if there is mail delivery on #Martin Luther King Day or if your local post office will be open on Monday January 16? Every year, the federal holiday is observed on the third Monday in January, but there is always some confusion as to what’s open and what’s closed on the day we honor the late civil rights activist who was born on January 15, 1929.

Whether you are working on Monday or have the day off, if getting to the post office is on your to-do list, you’ll have to wait until Tuesday to mail a package, buy stamps, or check your post office box. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t get mail delivered to your home on MLK Day, but only certain types of mail qualify for holiday delivery.

USPS, FedEx, UPS holiday schedule

As far as the U.S. Postal Service goes, all branch locations will be closed on Monday, January 16 and will reopen normal business hours Tuesday, March 17. There is no general mail delivery to homes and businesses on Martin Luther King Day but you may see a mail truck or two on the road.

Although the post office is closed on Monday, some Amazon packages and Priority Mail Express packages may be delivered on Monday. If you have a tracking number, head over to the USPS website to find out when your package will arrive.

What about FedEx and UPS? If you’ve been ordering up a storm online with the gift cards you received for Christmas, there’s a good chance you’ve been waiting patiently for an iconic brown UPS truck or white FedEx truck to deliver your order.

Monday is a federal holiday, but both delivery companies will be open. That means you will be able to pick up or ship packages at one of the company’s’ local offices, and all UPS or FedEx packages will be delivered to homes and businesses on a normal schedule on MLK Day.
